How to Prepare Before Your Wisdom Teeth Extraction
When you meet with your dentist prior to your wisdom teeth extraction, there are a few things you’ll need to discuss. We’ve highlighted a few of the big questions that you and your dentist should go over prior to your extraction appointment:
- What time do I need to arrive for my appointment?
- Are there prescription medications that I’ll need to start taking prior the procedure?
- What medications will I need to take after the procedure?
- What type of anesthetic or sedative will I be taking for the procedure, and will it interfere with any of my current medications?
The Day of Your Wisdom Teeth Extraction
It’s important to arrange a ride to and from your appointment to have your wisdom teeth extracted. Whether or not your anesthetic or sedative leaves you feeling loopy after your procedure, it’s not recommended that you drive home after such a serious procedure. So make sure you ask a family member or friend in advance to assure that your ride is covered to and from the procedure.
It’s a good idea to stock up on soft foods before your procedure, so that as soon as you get home, you have food you’re able to eat. If possible, it’s also helpful to have someone available on call that you can talk to if you need additional food or supplies while you recover.
With ample preparation, you can make your wisdom teeth extraction stress free. And you can make your recovery process more relaxing. In any case, you should make sure to use the last of your wisdom well before it’s removed!
