Did you always know that you wanted to be a dentist?
I think I always had the idea that dentistry might be the path for me. I had an absolutely fantastic and kind dentist when I was young, so I always saw dentistry as something very fun—so much so, that I was gifted a dentist barbie for Christmas around age 5.
As I grew older, I started to gain a stronger interest in science and knew I wanted to do something in healthcare, but it wasn’t until high school when I really started to cultivate my interest in dentistry specifically. I had the opportunity through a program at my school to shadow a pediatric dentist every day after school for about three months, and my time spent with her really solidified my passion for the field.
I think it’s a perfect combination of science, art, and interpersonal relationships—exactly what I was looking for!
Who do you admire?
My mom and dad. They have been there for me every step of the way and have helped me get to where I am today. They are two of the hardest working people I know and have taught me that it’s okay to fall down, as long you get back up and keep working! They are also incredibly selfless and have always encouraged us to lend our time, talents, and compassion to everyone around us.
What do you really enjoy?
One of my favorite things is exploring new places with people I love. Anytime I can see a new part of the country or get out in nature to see something new with friends and family I am in heaven. I also really enjoy baking, concerts, and catching a Creighton basketball game. I’m originally from Minnesota, so you can also find me cheering on the Golden Gopher hockey and football teams (sorry to disappoint all you Husker fans!)
What are you most passionate about professionally?
I am passionate about fostering meaningful relationships with my patients and providing excellent care. I strive to be a lifelong learner and to continue to expand my skills and knowledge to become a better dentist and community leader.
What are you most passionate about personally?
I would say my friends and family. My parents and three younger brothers live in Minnesota so anytime we can actually all get together is something I really cherish since it doesn’t happen too often anymore. Being so far away from them has in some ways been a blessing in disguise because it has allowed me to form extremely close and meaningful relationships with friends here in Omaha—they are like my extra family members!
Any specific charities you love and why?
One that I really love is First Book. Their mission is to make books and other educational resources more readily available to all children so that the opportunity to receive a high-quality education is equal, regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic status. I also love any time I can use my knowledge in dentistry as a way to serve others. One of my favorite memories from dental school is serving on a five-week mission trip to the Dominican Republic with the ILAC program at Creighton. My goal is to one day make that trip again (or several times!) as a professional.
Favorite breakfast food?
The chorizo breakfast skillet from Lisa’s Radial Café here in Omaha.
What did you want to be when you were a kid?
A ballerina.
